Kia cee'd Hybrid in Geneva: 49 mpg, 77 Lb-ft From Electric Motor
Kia is using the Geneva Motor Show to show a version of its cee'd car with a hybrid powertrain; it has produced a fleet of the hybrids for testing and evaluation in Europe.
The cee'd Hybrid makes use of Kia's Gamma 1.6-liter four paired with a 15 kW AC electric motor, a CVT transmission, and Kia's new engine stop/start system (ISG - Idle Stop & Go). Torque for the electric motor is a stout 77 lb-ft, presumably giving the cee'd Hybrid some ultra-efficient electric only acceleration and cruising capability.
Acceleration to 62 mph is a leisurely 11.8 seconds; top speed is approximately 115 mph. Mileage improves by 25 percent over the standard 1.6-liter gasoline cee'd, rising to approximately 49 mpg.
